Briton Ferry will look to build on their recent win as the Cymru Premier enjoys a surge in attendances. The Bridgend-based club's free ticket initiative for their home match against Airbus UK drew 2,666 spectators, the highest in their history and the fourth-largest crowd ever recorded in the Welsh top flight.
Held on a Saturday during an international break with no competing English Football League fixtures, the match attracted an attendance more than three times the league's average this season. It contributed to a record-breaking weekend for the Cymru Premier.
On the pitch, Penybont secured a 1-0 victory, extending their unbeaten start to four consecutive wins. This strong form follows significant summer investment and spending on recruitment, with the club aiming to challenge the long-standing dominance of champions The New Saints. Off the field, director David Zeeman explained the thinking behind the free ticket experiment.
"We wanted to do a really simple question: what happens if we make a football match completely free?" Zeeman said. He added, "We need more eyeballs, we need more fans and all the clubs need more revenue."
For Briton Ferry, currently 11th in the Premier League with 12 points from 12 games, such initiatives highlight the importance of fan support. The club's recent form shows one win, two draws and two losses in their last five outings, including a 1-0 victory over Colwyn Bay last week. The winning goal in that match came in the 67th minute, a key moment in their campaign. Their next opportunity to engage the home crowd comes on 30 October against 10th-placed Llandudno, a match detailed on the club's fixtures page. A positive result could see them climb the standings in a tightly contested division.
