Ferry's Injury and Absence
Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin has confirmed that defender Will Ferry will miss Saturday’s Dundee derby. Ferry, who had been a regular in the side for almost two years, suffered a groin problem that kept him out of the Celtic game. Goodwin said the scan “showed a little bit of a nick in his groin, so the game’s probably going to come to soon for Will, unfortunately.” He added that the injury is “probably (one game)” and that “there’s a little bit of soreness in a wee bit.” The scan confirmed what the club had suspected, but Goodwin stressed that it is “nothing major.”
Goodwin also dismissed speculation that Ferry was on the brink of a Tannadice exit. He said, “Lots of different things flying about the place, but the boy has hardly missed a game for us in two years and people again jump into conclusions.”
Transfer Rumours
Goodwin added that there is “nothing new on the transfer front” with Ferry. He had previously turned down a move to Sigma Olomouc during the window. Since then, Anderlecht have held talks and Celtic are also watching the situation closely. Dundee United have offered Ferry a new deal, but there has been no update on that front either. Goodwin said, “Not that I’m aware of, no. I’m usually the last one to know if that is the case, but no, nothing new.”
Squad Updates
Alongside Ferry’s absence, Dundee United have signed Bobby Wales on loan from Swansea City. Goodwin praised Wales, noting his background at Kilmarnock and that he “has good success” and “earned that move to Swansea.” He added that Wales is a “player that knows the league” and will “take the place of Simon Murray” who suffered an ACL injury at Aberdeen last week. Goodwin wished Murray a quick recovery.
Miller Thompson also missed the match, while midfielder Dylan Tait returns after serving a Premier Sports Cup suspension. The club’s defensive line will therefore be without Ferry, Thompson and Murray for the derby, relying on Wales and the remaining squad to cover the gaps.
